Tatiana Maslany and Mark Ruffalo Make a Perfect Pair in First ‘She-Hulk’ Footage (2024)

Every other announcement on Disney+ Day should be green with envy, because today is the day that we got our first look at Marvel Studios’ upcoming She-Hulk series—and wow oh wow does it deliver.

The sneak peek at comes towards the end of the Marvel Studios 2021 Disney+ Day Special, after a first look at Moon Knight, a Marvel series starring Oscar Isaac. But for everyone out there who has spent the last, I don’t know, 20 years counting Jennifer “She-Hulk” Walters as one of your all-time favorite superheroes, then today was your day for joy.Yes, I am one of those Marvel fans—and just seeing the iconic, Emmy-winning Tatiana Maslany doing yoga and saying in voiceover, “I’m Jennifer Walters,” was enough to send me.

For those who are new to the wonderful world of Shulkie—she’s a superhuman lawyer, meaning she is a literal superhuman lawyer who practices superhuman law. Her powers? Well, she can turn into a jade giantess called She-Hulk because… well, she’s a Hulk. We even get to see a glimpse of She-Hulk—and she’s wearing her purple and white color scheme.

I just can’t. It’s too good. I’m already saving up money for all the action figures coming out next year.

So, how does a lawyer get all Hulked up? Well, in the comics she gained her abilities after receiving a life-saving blood transfusion from her cousin Bruce Banner. While we don’t know if the same will happen in the show, we do know that Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) will appear. They appear together in the trailer and, oh my god, seeing tiny Jennifer Walters next to the giant Hulk—it just looks like a piece of Juan Bobillo She-Hulk art come to life.

The reason She-Hulk has endured as a character for 40 years, enjoying lengthy stints as both an Avenger and member of the Fantastic Four as well as consistently holding it down as a solo hero, is because she almost immediately established her own personality, tone, and style that’s completely independent from the He-Hulk. The most important part of the She-Hulk vibe? She’s funny. Her comics are legit hysterical. And we see a bit of that humor in what appears to be a parody of cheesy retro lawyer commercials. She even says the Hulk’s retro catch phrase!

The other thing that sets Jen apart from Bruce? She loves being a Hulk! Her powers aren’t controlled by rage! She gets to be the Hulk whenever she wants, and she loves it! We even get a tease that that’s the case in the Disney+ show with one shot of Shulkie wearing a stunning gown as she arrives at a fancy event.

There’s more going on, though, as a shot from later in the sizzle reel shows human Jennifer being pulled into some sort of abyss by an unseen antagonist. No matter how funny and stunning She-Hulk is, she’s still a superhero—and superheroes always have bad guys to deal with.

She-Hulk: See Tatiana Maslany as She-Hulk/Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who specializes in superhuman-oriented legal cases. “She-Hulk” will welcome a host of Marvel characters to the series, including the Hulk, played by Mark Ruffalo, and the Abomination, played by Tim Roth. The new comedy series coming to Disney+ in 2022 is directed by executive producer Kat Coiro with Anu Valia also directing. Executive producer Jessica Gao serves as head writer.

She-Hulk stars Emmy-winner Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) as Jennifer Walters, a high-powered lawyer and cousin of Bruce Banner. The series will be Marvel Studios’ first comedy series—unless you count the first few episodes of WandaVision which were sitcoms but also mass mind-control situations caused by dark magic and trauma so… She-Hulk is Marvel Studios’ first comedy comedy. The series will also feature Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Tim Roth reprising his role as Abomination, and will feature Jameela Jamil’s MCU debut as She-Hulk’s archenemy Titania. Jessica Gao (Rick & Morty) is the show’s head writer, and Kat Coiro (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Anu Valia (Never Have I Ever) will direct. She-Hulk was created by Stan Lee and John Buscema.
